Account Manager

We’re small but we’re good!  Established for over 20 years, Ridgemount has a loyal and stable client base consisting mainly of organisations related to the building industry.  We could happily stay that way, but we have an ambitious five year growth plan and are looking for people with enthusiasm, commitment and a sense of humour to help us achieve it.

We’ve made a great start.  In December 2015 we won the coveted title of Agency of The Year at the Construction Marketing Awards for the first time, announcing to the world at large that we are a force to be reckoned with, and we are not up for standing still. In 2016 we won the social media category of the CMAs and were also shortlisted as Agency of the Year in the 2017 Marketing Excellence Awards.

It may just be a coincidence, but since then our business has really started to take off.  This year we have added three clients and are adding services to our existing client portfolio all the time.  With several new opportunities in the pipeline it’s all got frantically busy and we need an enthusiastic, diligent Account Manager to help us grow further.

Our core business is in the construction sector and many of our clients require B2B campaigns. However, we also have a small, but growing, number of clients whose campaigns are definitely consumer-facing and we would like to grow this area of business.  The current client base to be managed by the incoming account manager includes:  a luxury ceramics company; a housebuilder and a trade association promoting the benefits of smaller building contractors. We are therefore looking for someone with B2C experience with the flexibility to embrace B2B campaigns where appropriate.

We are a small team that works collaboratively – we don’t really do hierarchies, but we are recruiting for people who can manage PR accounts.  This involves the following responsibilities:

  • Planning the PR strategy and designing the programme of activity
  • Thinking creatively around a brief
  • Writing engaging, intriguing and informative content for all channels, including press, social media websites and in-house publications
  • Managing budgets to ensure all accounts are run profitably
  • Forming good working relationships with key media contacts
  • Fulfilling a programme of networking to promote clients and agency
  • Contributing to (and running) new business pitches
  • Managing the career development and training of a less experienced team member

To manage our clients effectively, everyone needs to gain an understanding of the building industry – this can involve muddy feet!  We pride ourselves on the ability to write effective copy for different audiences so we need to be able to get technical when required and to get under the skin of everyone within the supply chain – from architects to plumbers, from legislators to electricians.

In addition to providing the best possible service to our clients, everyone is asked to contribute to our company planning and strategy discussions and to help shape Ridgemount’s future.

We like to have happy people working for the company, so we offer the following range of benefits:

  • Attractive modern offices in Mortlake
  • An art allowance for new joiners to customise their work space
  • 20 days annual holiday, plus Christmas to New Year shut-down
  • Birthday day off
  • Private health insurance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Annual profit-related bonus
  • Generous commission on new business introductions
  • Company iphone and laptop
  • Training budget of £1,000 per year
  • Company outings (Christmas party 2016 was in Berlin, 2015 was in Barcelona)

In return we need our new team members need to:

  • Love writing
  • Be curious. Questions are not only good – they’re essential
  • Be able to manage tasks efficiently and accurately
  • Enjoy liaising with people at all levels of management
  • Understand social media – even if the lack of full sentences cause distress

We would expect our Account Managers to have experience of B2B PR – whether that was acquired in an agency, in-house or as a journalist.   We don’t expect new joiners to know all that much about building, but we need an appreciation of the importance of the built environment.
